Samuel S. Martin has written an excellent resource for Christians seeking a soundly biblical basis for parenting without corporal discipline. The free e-book is available here, thanks to Samuel's generosity. Please consider donating to Samuel's on-going work which is ministering grace and mercy to many families. (He has no idea about that last bit :) )

That above link takes you to Why Not Train a Child, a clearing house of information and Christian arguments against the teaching of the Pearls. Great place to find gentle, sane alternatives to bringing up children.

This book showed up at our church - when they had a visiting speaker from USA. Much to my horror. I picked it up, and on the last page, I read about how we should be bringing up our daughters to be "hidden women". Christian purdah. I alerted our church leaders. I'm sure they had no idea - our church has generally been pretty good at supporting equality. They just had no idea their visiting ministry would be laying such a book out on the table.
ReplyDeleteI mean, the awful To Train UP a Child - is the book that had the comment about girls being "hidden women" - obviously not Samuel Martin's book which is full of grace, common sense and based in Scripture. A breath of fresh air.
